VALE DOUGLAS (WOP) BOYDLE

VALE DOUGLAS (WOP) BOYDLE

Tony Sullivan contacted me over Christmas with the following message.

It is with deep regret I write this , I had a phone call from Margaret Boydle last night (Christmas Day) to inform me that Doug had died that morning.

Marg and daughter Samantha were with him awaiting an ambulance when he passed away.

Doug leaves wife Margaret along with Daughters, Vicki, Terri, Samantha and Son Scott on a day that should have been a day of happiness for them all.

Shirley and I have always made first stop the Boydle’s in Sunbury when we come over from Tassie.

We had 3 days with them in October, and Doug was his usual busy self and seemed in good health.

We had been friends since Darwin and he and Marg moved into our house at Coonawarra when we departed in 1965 and he accused me of leaving a pet snake in one of the bedrooms when we left.

We met again at Tullamarine where we were both employed with DCA.

Our kids grew up together and we holidayed with them in Peterborough Vic at the Boydle family holiday home.

For those who are not aware, his collection of books on all things Military is vast, and he read every night in bed, plus he retained the information, unlike myself.

He was a Morris Minor enthusiast as were all the family and at one stage had 13 Morries between them.

His collection of model cars, aircraft and ships which he picked up on trips around Australia as well as UK and the USA is staggering, they take up a spare bedroom and a large shed and still cannot be all displayed.

He has been a great friend since the 60’s and will be sadly missed.

Murgy reminded me of a tomato sauce incident with Wop – the only bloke I knew who put redders on his ice cream!
