Salute (Leah Kenny, 2007)

I hear so many say that they just don’t understand ‘Why do we send our soldiers to all these foreign lands?’ They say ‘I don’t believe in war…don’t understand the aim’ But our soldiers do more than just shield us from the pain

Upon ANZAC hill their legend came to light Fighting for the freedom of all mans God given rights No man should yield in terror within his family home Based purely on his faith, religion or skin tone Our soldiers’ fought for those who lacked the force to fight And spoke for those who lived in terror, against those who held the knife

I salute to you my soldiers You have always been there for me I raise our flag for you Because you keep our country free But more than that your courage Defends those too powerless to fight My pride with on you soldier For defending human rights

I ask of you who are complaining, what you’d do if denied your home? Who would you call if imposed with new regimes when you hadn’t got to vote? Our soldiers stood up for those who rightfully owned the land Gave back the voice to the people whose head was forced beneath the sand I support my soldiers when they are sent to war I will always understand that they are fighting for a cause It may not be so publicised and easy for you to see But they are fighting for, not just our country, but our worlds living peace

I salute to you my soldiers You have always been there for me I raise our flag for you Because you keep our country free But more than that your courage Defends those denied their rights My pride with on you soldier For upholding freedoms light

This ANZAC Day I salute the Australian Defence Force, and all the men and women within it who protect both our beautiful Australia and the world, keeping place, power and freedom with those who will truly cherish and embrace it.

Thank You
